THE CHEMILY STORY
My name is Emily-Kate and I am the founder of Chemily’s Cakes. Here’s a little bit about me and how Chemily’s Cakes came into being...
The first wedding cake I ever made was for my sister’s wedding back in July 2017 – which now feels like a lifetime ago... I absolutely fell in love with the process.
At the time I had trained for six years to become a solicitor, but cakes came calling, and I decided to pursue my dream and set up my own cake business. Chemily’s Cakes was born in January 2018 – I haven’t looked back since!
I know how lucky I am to be able to combine my passion with my career. I put my all into every cake I bake and decorate and love the whole process, from talking to clients about what they want to the glorious, fully embellished finish. But the ultimate satisfaction comes when I get to do my favourite part of all – the handover! Unveiling the cake to my clients and seeing the smiles and sometimes (happy) tears in people’s eyes really puts the icing on the cake… (Sorry, I had to!)
Since starting Chemily’s Cakes, I have been steadily building a core customer base in the North of England. I specialise in bespoke buttercream and ganache wedding cakes and flavours, but can turn my hand to stand out birthday cakes and yummy cupcakes, too! No matter the occasion, I strive to craft a cake worthy of being a centrepiece.
I endeavour to share my passion for design and my love of cake decorating by working closely with every client, getting to know them and understanding their requirements while drawing on my wealth of experience to suggest fitting design features and flavours. I approach the design process very holistically, believing the cake should complement the wedding theme, from the flowers to the invitations to the bride’s wedding dress. I’m passionate about colour and texture, and use various techniques that I have worked tirelessly to perfect, such as stencilling and embossing. Combining all these skills and elements enables me to create a perfectly personalised cake that always complements the wedding day as a whole.
With an innate passion for baking, I hold a simple philosophy: everything I make must taste as good as it looks! Cakes are not something to be eaten and then forgotten about – they are for celebrating the moments of our lives that we wish to share with loved ones and remember forever.
